The Underworld films is surprisingly popular here on Bloody Disgusting, and when news hit that the franchise would spin off into a new, expanded direction, it left a big question mark surrounding franchise badass/babe Kate Beckinsale.

It was just announced that the new film, Underworld: Next Generation, will star franchise vamp Theo James, and potentially focus on Selene (Beckinsale) and Michael Corvin’s (Scott Speedman) hybrid daughter, Eve. Thus, implying the end of Selene’s arc. You know what they say about making assumptions…

“There’s a few things being developed right now,” franchise director Len Wiseman told IGN at this past weekend’s New York Comic Con. “There are some characters who we really liked that will be in a kind of a spin-off like we did with Rise of the Lycans, then we have another film in the works with Kate [Beckinsale] as well,” he revealed before dropping another bomb: “…and then there’s a television series.

“So we’re expanding that universe in many ways. They’re all in development. There’s a lot of releases out there that aren’t actually true; it would take too long to wrap up [what we'll see first in one answer].”

A television series makes a lot of sense, and each of the sequels have performed quite well. It’s sort of crazy to me that these continue on and yet Elm Street, Halloween and Friday the 13th are takingforever to slash forward.

In regards to Next Generation, Lakeshore Entertainment hired Cory Goodman (Priest, The Last Witch Hunter) to pen the screenplay wit a shoot set for spring 2015. Watch for tons more, presumably, soon.

Hollywood is coming to downtown Greensboro….for a day anyway.

Crews are scheduled to shoot exterior scenes on Oct. 20 for “The Disappointments Room,” a feature film starring Kate Beckinsale, Mel Raido, Lucas Till and Gerald McRaney. The film was described by the Deadline.com website as a “psychological thriller in the vein of The Shining.” It is being directed by DJ Caruso and scheduled to be released in late 2015.

It’s not clear which, if any, of the acting stars will be involved in the filming, but the architectural stars are: 121 and 123 S. Elm St. The former address is the site of the Porter Drug Store, where O. Henry once worked and Lunsford Richardson developed his line of home health care remedies, including Vicks VapoRub. Two historical plaques flank the existing building there, which was built in the 1920s.

According to the movie’s production company, DR Productions LLC, filming will take place between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. There will be no parking allowed on South Elm between Market and Washington streets, nor along One February Place between Greene and Davie streets.

She is known for her role as the sultry Death Dealer Selene in the moderately successful Underworld movie series.
But it has been reported that Kate Beckinsale will not be returning for the fifth installment, and will instead be replaced by Divergent actor Theo James.
While Theo won’t be stepping into Kate’s heels as Selene, he will now be the main star attached to the vampire flick.

Variety revealed the news, reporting that movie is set to begin filming in the spring.
Theo starred in the fourth film – Underworld: Awakening – in 2012 as David, an ally to Kate’s Selene.
He is expected to portray the same character in the new film.

Kate met director Len Wiseman while shooting the first film, who she later married in 2004.
She will next be seen in Steonhearst Asylum, a thriller directed by Brad Anderson, known for his work on the TV show Fringe, as well as movies The Machinist and The Call.
