GREENSBORO, N.C. — Kate Beckinsale will star in The Disappointments Room, a psychological thriller set to begin filming in Greensboro later this year.
The film is about a family who moves into a haunted house out in the country. Beckinsale will play the role of the mother, who begins to question her sanity when she starts seeing ghosts and visions of the house’s bloody past.
The thriller will be directed by D.J. Caruso and written by Beckinsale’s Underworld co-star Wentworth Miller.
Last week, Relativity closed a deal to fully finance the film.
Production in Greensboro could start in August, but will likely start later in the year, according to The Wilmywood Daily.
Production was originally slated to begin in February.
According to Deadline.com:
“Inspired by a true event, The Disappointments Room tells the story of one family’s terror-filled encounter within their own home. Looking for a fresh start, Dana (Kate Beckinsale) and David, together with their 5-year-old son Jeremy, move into their dream house, a beautiful old rural home. Hidden within the attic was a secret room. When frightening and unexplainable events lead Dana to discover the long lost key to this room, she accidentally unlocks a host of unimaginable horrors that reveal the house’s past is terrifyingly tied with her own. The ghost story was shopped at AFM, but those entities aren’t involved. The script was written by Wentworth Miller, the Prison Break star who wrote Stoker. Caruso has done the most recent pass on the script.”
There’s been an abundance of bland projects lately for the lovely Kate Beckinsale. With films likeTotal Recall, Contraband and Underworld: Awakening being the most recent films in her career, she needs to do some recovering. Perhaps she’ll find relief in The Disappointments Room, a new project that Deadline reports Disturbia and Eagle Eye director D.J. Caruso will direct for Relativity Media. The film is described as being a psychological thriller in the same vein as The Shining, but the film sounds just like plenty of other horror films we’ve seen about a family moving into an old, haunted house with dark secrets. More below!
The film is said to be inspired by real events as it tells the story of a couple and their five-year old son who move into their dream house, an old rural home with a secret room hidden in their attic. Beckinsale will play the matriarch of the household as she discovers the key to this secret room that leads to spooky and inexplicable events happening all around the house, all tied to its terrifying past, which just may be entwined with her own personal history too. The only saving grace might be the script coming from Wentworth Miller, who wrote a haunting and creepy script for Stoker, and Caruso has already done his own pass as well. The film is expected to begin shooting next month, so stay tuned.

I’ve added HD screencaptures from one of the latest projects of Kate: The Trials Of Cate McCall.
In order to be reinstated to the bar and recover custody of her daughter, a hotshot lawyer, now in recovery and on probation, must take on the appeal of a woman wrongfully convicted of murder.
