She is known for her role as the sultry Death Dealer Selene in the moderately successful Underworld movie series.
But it has been reported that Kate Beckinsale will not be returning for the fifth installment, and will instead be replaced by Divergent actor Theo James.
While Theo won’t be stepping into Kate’s heels as Selene, he will now be the main star attached to the vampire flick.

Variety revealed the news, reporting that movie is set to begin filming in the spring.
Theo starred in the fourth film – Underworld: Awakening – in 2012 as David, an ally to Kate’s Selene.
He is expected to portray the same character in the new film.

Kate met director Len Wiseman while shooting the first film, who she later married in 2004.
She will next be seen in Steonhearst Asylum, a thriller directed by Brad Anderson, known for his work on the TV show Fringe, as well as movies The Machinist and The Call.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Kate Beckinsale will star in The Disappointments Room, a psychological thriller set to begin filming in Greensboro later this year.

The film is about a family who moves into a haunted house out in the country. Beckinsale will play the role of the mother, who begins to question her sanity when she starts seeing ghosts and visions of the house’s bloody past.

The thriller will be directed by D.J. Caruso and written by Beckinsale’s Underworld co-star Wentworth Miller.

Last week, Relativity closed a deal to fully finance the film.

Production in Greensboro could start in August, but will likely start later in the year, according to The Wilmywood Daily.

Production was originally slated to begin in February.

According to Deadline.com:

“Inspired by a true event, The Disappointments Room tells the story of one family’s terror-filled encounter within their own home. Looking for a fresh start, Dana (Kate Beckinsale) and David, together with their 5-year-old son Jeremy, move into their dream house, a beautiful old rural home. Hidden within the attic was a secret room. When frightening and unexplainable events lead Dana to discover the long lost key to this room, she accidentally unlocks a host of unimaginable horrors that reveal the house’s past is terrifyingly tied with her own. The ghost story was shopped at AFM, but those entities aren’t involved. The script was written by Wentworth Miller, the Prison Break star who wrote Stoker. Caruso has done the most recent pass on the script.”
