The war between lycans and vampires continue in Underworld: Next Generation. Kate Beckinsale returns as Selene while actor Theo James is also coming back to reprise his role as David. The movie is also said to focus on Selene’s daughter, Eve.

Although there is no official plot release yet, just like how the title suggest, Underworld: Next Generation is said to be about the younger generations of Lycans and vampires, continuing the seemingly endless fight between their races. Aside from the continuation of the war, the story of the movie is also said to center on Selene’s daughter, Eve, as she is said to play as the protagonist in the movie.

As of writing, two actors have been confirmed to be part of the cast. Kate Beckinsale who has been the face of most of the movies in the franchise, is coming back to reprise her role as the Vampire-Cornivus Strain Hybrid, Selene. Apart from Beckinsale,

“Underworld 5,” also called, “Underworld: Next Generation” will see the conflicts between the new generations of vampires and lycans. Kate Beckinsale returns as Selene and is scheduled to start shooting the film by October for a 2016 release.

Details about “Underworld 5″ are still scarce but Cinemablend noted that the story’s focus remains on the rivalry of vampires and lycans. This time however, new and younger generations of these monsters will spark the conflict.

Kate Beckinsale will remain as the face of the franchise, reprising her role as the vampire warrior Selene, as opposed to the previous reports that the actress will not star in the newest installment.

Beckinsale will be joined by “Divergent” star Theo James, who briefly appeared in “Underworld: Awakening” as the young vampire David.

Previously, James also turned down the “Underworld 5″ to make way for his shooting schedule of “Allegiant,” where he plays the leading man, Tobias. But recently, the English actor confirmed his return to star opposite Beckinsale.

The production for “Underworld: Next Generation” is expected to kick off on October in Prague, as per The Hollywood Reporter’s report. With the given production date, fans of the franchise can expect that the film will hit cinemas in late 2016.

And for the first time in the franchise’s history, the movie will be helmed by a female director. Anna Foerster will sit in the director’s chair with the script written by Cory Goodman. Foerster is known for her TV directorial works that include, “Outlander” and “Criminal Minds,” but has also worked behind the camera for some big screen hits like “White House Down” and “The Day After Tomorrow.”

Younger generations of vampires and lycans will reign in “Underworld 5,” which will still have Kate Beckinsale as its female lead to be joined by “Divergent” actor Theo James. The movie is set to kick off its production this October in Czech Republic capital, Prague.

“Underworld: Next Generation” is expected to drop in cinemas late 2016.

Kate Beckinsale will be back on the big screen as the Vampire warrior Selene in the upcoming fifth installment of Lakeshore Entertainment and Screen Gems’ hit Underworld franchise. The Hollywood Reporter has the news, bringing word that the production has also found a director in Anna Foerster, best known for her work with Roland Emmerich, most recently as the director of photography on 2013’s White House Down.

It was reported last fall that Theo James will also be returning to the franchise, reprising his role as the Vampire David. At that time, it was not believed that Beckinsale would be back for the fifth film. Today’s report, however, confirms that both talents will again star opposite one another.

The first Underworld, directed by Len Wiseman, was released in 2003 and follows the adventures of Kate Beckinsale’s Selene, a vampire “Death Dealer” caught in the war between vampires and Lycans. It was followed by Underworld: Evolution in 2006, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans in 2009 and Underworld: Awakening in 2012.

Beckinsale recently headlined Brad Anderson’s Stonehearst Asylum and can be seen coming up in Terry Jones’ comedy science fiction fantasy Absolutely Anything.

Underworld 5, scripted by Cory Goodman, aims to begin production this October in Prague.
